I am a barber and stylist with over 18 years of professional experience. My initial experience came from cutting on aboard ship while serving in the US Navy. Being passionate about cutting I became a barbers apprentice under a Master Barber for instruction and hands on experience. With the desire to know more and learn the full spectrum of cutting/styling for both men and women, in addition to grasping color techniques and skin care I eventually enrolled and graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in cosmetology and have been cutting ever since.
I specialize in men styles and do a lot corrective cuts, which seem to be my niche, which got me referred to you all.
My experience with Top Lace began over 3 years ago when I began cutting a young clients hair in my home in his wishes to keep the fact that he was transitioning into a top piece hair product. We learned each step of the process together. We created templates, selected the best color and texture , figured out the best placement and style. We created a system for his particular needs and concerns.
It very important that all looks real and natural consistently. I now consider myself a Guru on making my clients look and feel amazing, which is very noticeable to me after a grooming session. I see confidence and self esteem restored and that's why I am so passionate in cutting and styling.
So if any of you have any questions please feel free to ask. And if you are looking for a barber/stylist in the Central Florida area, please feel free to contact me for a consult and/or appointment.
Keep in mind your hair piece should compliment your to his personal and unique features and attributes. Bone structure, head shape, re-establishing your natural parting, matching hair color and texture, placement and the perfect cut will always give you extreme satisfaction. And I available to help you with each step of the way. Let me hear your concerns. Bill@swaggrassgrooming.com or 407-879-2860

In Ireland and my system only lasts 6 weeks?

Hi guys - I am based in Ireland and I have to change my human hair system every 6 weeks. Here is my routine and you can tell me what I am doing wrong.

I wash the system twice a week (detach and attach - never wash it on my head - I have to do this as I have oily skin) I use nearly natural silk protein shampoo - I wet the hair and put a table spoon of shampoo on and wash it under a showerhead in lukewarm water - it always seems to be washing out dirt at this stage . I then repeat the shampooing process as the second time produces a nice white lather and then I dry the hair. The hair although thoroughly clean will always feel kind of dry after this process - I don't use conditioner here as I use leave in conditioner every day.

I then tape it up and once on my head I spritz it with water and some leave in conditioner - the one I have always used is called Equave two phase by Revlon for dry, coloured, permed or highlighted hair. I then spritz it with Jorgen wet look spray.

Here are my problems:

If I go out in the sun for even half an hour my system will dry out.
My hair dries out anyway and needs to be spritzed with water 3-4 times a day to look lifelike.
My sides are thin so if I put in styling products like gels or waxes they look great at the time but I pay for it the following day as there will be a distinct difference between the piece and my own hair. This doesn't happen when I just use the styling method described above.

Maybe I'm using totally the wrong products - I don't know but have been wearing for 5 years and love it but I just wish the pieces didn't dry out so quickly. I would appreciate any feedback - I mean that.

Best Wishes
Anyway, any suggestions? Is glue better? Maybe Walker No Shine on the sides and then glue on the hairline?

Hi Guys,

I've been wearing a front partial for a little over a month now and it's not been without it's difficulties and so i'm thinking of using the entire topper when my new system arrives rather than cutting it down again. I wondered whether those who have gone down this route have regretted switching or whether its made life easier. what are the ups and downs you've experienced.

I got some excellent advice from this forum which made me decide to cut it into a partial in the first place, which i don't regret as it was definitely worth trying as you can always increase the size of the area you're covering but you can't really go the other way.

The issues i have are mainly to do with transitioning between my system and natural hair on the top of my head. whilst the decision to go with a front partial was based on the fact i still have good coverage in the back half of my head, the hair is quite fine and thin and just doesn't match up easily with the system hair. my system is 60% density so its not as if i've gone far too dense and I certainly wouldn't want to go any less than that at this stage. the texture of the hair is just completely different. it feels different (thicker), looks different and behaves differently and I'm really conscious of it. Colour matching has been nothing short of a nightmare either as despite giving a hair sample it was slightly lighter than my own hair and whilst I know some of these issues will still be a problem with a topper I wondered whether anyone had any thoughts on this. my side and back hair is denser than my crown and area in front of it so i think it may just blend easier if i go down the topper route and get rid of this fine, limp hair on the back half of my head?

styling the hair is another area where I feel a partial is limiting me. normally with a topper the hair on the edge of the system will be lying flat so hiding the edge is easy. with me the join is right on the top of my head so if i style the hair to spike it up or mess it up a bit then its easier to see an edge of lace of a bit of shine from the glue etc. so it means I've got less styling options and have to keep it a bit longer than I'd ideally like.

lining the system up isn't easy either because my native hair wants to flop forward naturally and so i end up with hair overlapping the shaved area and have to hold it back with clips whilst I'm attaching and it's just a bit of a nightmare really. its also not easy to see where I'm attaching but then i wonder whether this would be true of a topper as well. using a small partial system can be a bit fiddly.

The positives are: sleeping isn't an issue. someone feeling the edge isn't a problem either as nobody generally touches the top of your head do they. hiding the grid pattern or shine from the glues isn't an issue in the crown as that area is my own. and.. (this is a minor point in the grand scheme of things) I save a bit of money on adhesives, solvents etc as the system is half the size of a topper.

I'm looking to see if anyone who has switched has any thoughts on the potential benefits and downsides to me moving to a topper and whether they would recommend this or not. I know the general consensus is to keep as much of your natural hair for as long as you can but I'm starting to think that may not be right for me.

any thoughts welcome.

Hello Guys,

i want to show you some pictures of my actuall Hairsystem. It was not the best choice to buy it and i am not very happy with it. But till i get my Toplace system, i have to deal with this.
Oh, and please excuse my bad english skills. I try to write so understandable as i can ....

I buy this one, from a Hairsaloon here. I pay 500€. It have 50% artificial hair. I chose this because the guy from this shop say, artificial hair is not so sensitive like real hair. I was very nervous, so i belive him....How i say, not my best decision.

So i am 33 years old, i work as a Delivery Manager in a office. Most of the time i am in my office and i can wear jeans and a Cap. Unfortunately i look very young with this. Its not very helpfull if you look like a trainee.

But sometimes i have to go to meetings and meet customers. Than i need, and want to look as professional i could. A long time before i decide to wear a hairpiece i use Finasterid, Minox, Volluma and all this shhh... stuff ... From Minox i get Heartproblems, Finasterid get me some nice sexual problems, and Volluma wrecked my bathroom totally. Everything was black! So, after a long time of trying i decide to buy a hairsystems (i hate the word Toupee!..)

It is ok, but for my opinion there is to Dense. And there is no way to style your Hair back or up! Also it looks very synthetic when a wind comes through. I have many work to do till it look a little like normal hair.

Here some pictures of it, first four are normal wearing. The fifth, i comb my hair back, that looks very bad (also with Flash it look very unnatural!) But you can see how bad it looks when i style my hair up.

So, thats it. I still looking so forward till i get my Toplace H-System!...

Also thank you all for so many interesting posts i found here! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

I'll make this short and sweet. I think my time with propecia is coming to end, ive been on it for about a year and a half, and now im really considering the side effects, nothing serious has happened to me yet. But i deff have seen a decrease in sex drive and now im feeling some pain in my groin. I'm started to realize i only have two options. Shave or get a hairpeice. and i know the hairpeiece is the option i want. Would someone be willing to personally email me or even talk on the phone? I know this sounds weird, but i just have no one to talk too about this and its driving me mad. Personally i would like to speak to someone whos already gone thru this process and wouldnt mind mentoring/ guiding me thru it. Let me know and ill post my email on here for you. Sorry if this is a weird post..im just in a weird place i guess

Im starting to find that in the heat or summer months the skin pieces don't give me as much of a good hold as lace. Got2b glued breaks down pretty badly when ur sweating.. and even ORWG loses its hold. Im surprised no one else seems to say this. Do you put like deodorant on your head or something first?

Hello,

I have been wearing Toplace hair system for more than one year now and I am very happy about it.

However after about 2 month the hair becomes very dry. I presently do not use a conditioner (only shampoo for dry hair, once a week). I tried TDI pretty slick but it only works 2 or 3 days after a shampoo.

Do you recommend a conditioner in particular ?

I read that it is possible to buy the same product that is used on the hairpiece (expensive, about 250$ per liter).

Thanks in advance for your answers,

Have any of you guys tried using Got 2b Glued Invincible Styling Gel? Reviews on Amazon generally seem to indicate that it is potentially stronger than the Spiking Glue. I'm curious as to whether it would work well for the purpose of hair piece attachment.

The best part is that the invincible gel has far fewer ingredients than those in the spiking glue, such as propylparaben.
i plan for my new SFS piece to added temple flaps. see pic below

To wearer use flaps, could you tell me if it more difficult to glued the lace on side ? Can i use SFS lace for the Flaps ?
The attachement flaps with glue is secure, does it need special attention ?
I afraid if a flap is detach, and i don't see it...
Which glue can i use, ultra hold ?
Any advices are welcome.

Now I know this type of question comes up from time to time and I have searched through the forum and found a couple responses, but I'm curious if anyone has good advice.

What have you found to be the best way to tell someone you wear? Assuming they haven't found out or caught you or anything, there just comes a time when you want to let someone close to you know. Whether you're dating, close friends, whatever. I fear saying anything that brings up the words "wig" and "toupee" because of the stigma. But I can't really think of a good way to say "hair system" that wouldn't make them ask, "you mean like a toupee?"

Also, part B, do any of you get a secure enough, tight enough bond that you are comfortable letting someone run their fingers through your hair? Maybe the hair just looks so good on my head it's irresistable, but almost EVERYONE I date tries to play with my hair and I find it really awkward to try to tell them to stop (again, I'm clearly terrible at communicating... hahaha).

Thanks everyone!
